2018: Return To The Moon - Orbiter Space Flight Simulator

The Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV) was NASA's planned manned spacecraft intended to carry human crews from Earth into space and back again from 2012 on. The CEV would be launched into earth orbit by the Crew Launch Vehicle, a shuttle-derived two-stage rocket consisting of a single Shuttle RSRM solid booster as the first stage and a new second stage, 5.5 m in diameter, using Lox/LH2 propellants and powered by a single SSME. Lunar Mission involved the placing in an earth parking orbit by a shuttle-derived heavy-lift Cargo Launch Vehicle of a trans-lunar injection (TLI) stage and an unmanned Lunar Surface Access Module (LSAM). Within 30 days, a Crew Launch Vehicle (CLV) would launch the CEV into orbit. The CEV would rendezvous and dock with the LSAM and TLI stage. The combined spacecraft would be put on a trans-lunar trajectory by the TLI stage, which would then be jettisoned. The LSAM would brake the combined CEV and LSAM spacecraft into lunar orbit. The four-man crew would transfer to the LSAM and descend to the surface (Here, Tycho crater), leaving the CEV in quiescent mode in lunar orbit for up to six months. When the crew was ready to leave the moon, they would fire the LSAM ascent stage, and then rendezvous and dock with the unmanned CEV. The LSAM would be cast away, and the CEV would perform the trans-earth injection maneuver, its only major engine burn. On approach to earth, the CM would separate from the SM after being set up for the precise angle and position ...

NASA 747 landing with Space Shuttle on its back at KSC

Well since I kind of like space and space stuff I guess I made this when I saw the real 747 landing with a Space Shuttle on its back so I would make one. I went to Projectopensky.com and found a 747-100 with Discovery on its back so i decided I would make the video. Enjoy and Comment, Rate, and Subscribe!

STS-120 - SPACE SHUTTLE DISCOVERY LANDING - FOX NEWS

Space shuttle Discovery descended to a smooth landing at Kennedy Space Center, Fla., concluding a successful assembly mission to the International Space Station. With Commander Pam Melroy and Pilot George Zamka at the controls, Discovery landed at 1:01 pm EST. During its stay at the station, which began Oct. 25, the STS-120 crew continued the on-orbit construction of the station with the installation of the Harmony Node 2 module and the relocation of the P6 truss. The crew installed Harmony Oct. 26 and did four spacewalks at the station. During the third spacewalk, the crew installed the P6 truss and solar array pair in its permanent location outboard of the port truss. The fourth spacewalk was changed during the mission so that the crew could repair a torn solar array on the P6 truss. Following the successful repair work, the crew was able to fully deploy the solar array. Discovery also delivered a new station crew member, Flight Engineer Daniel Tani. STS-120 is the 120th shuttle mission and 23rd mission to visit the space station. The next mission, STS-122, is slated to launch in December.

747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) Ferry Flights

This 31 second movie clip shows a takeoff and landing of the 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. NASA uses two modified Boeing 747 jetliners, originally manufactured for commercial use, as Space Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA). One is a 747-100 model, while the other is designated a 747-100SR (short range). The two aircraft are identical in appearance and in their performance as Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. The 747 series of aircraft are four-engine intercontinental-range swept-wing "jumbo jets" that entered commercial service in 1969. The SCAs are used to ferry space shuttle orbiters from landing sites back to the launch complex at the Kennedy Space Center, and also to and from other locations too distant for the orbiters to be delivered by ground transportation. The orbiters are placed atop the SCAs by Mate-Demate Devices, large gantry-like structures which hoist the orbiters off the ground for post-flight servicing, and then mate them with the SCAs for ferry flights. Features which distinguish the two SCAs from standard 747 jetliners are: -Three struts, with associated interior structural strengthening, protruding from the top of the fuselage (two aft, one forward) on which the orbiter is attached -Two additional vertical stabilizers, one on each end of the standard horizontal stabilizer, to enhance directional stability -Removal of all interior furnishings and equipment aft of the forward No. 1 doors Instrumentation used by SCA flight crews and engineers to monitor orbiter ...

STS-129 HD Landing

Space shuttle Atlantis and its crew of seven astronauts ended an 11-day journey of nearly 4.5 million miles with a 9:44 am EST landing Friday at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The mission, designated STS-129, included three spacewalks and the installation of two platforms to the International Space Station's truss, or backbone. The platforms hold large spare parts to sustain station operations after the shuttles are retired. The shuttle crew delivered about 30000 pounds of replacement parts for systems that provide power to the station, keep it from overheating, and maintain a proper orientation in space.

"Soar into space with those who stay behind." Written and directed by Scott Hicks, this 1994 Discovery Channel documentary centers on the preparations and launch of STS-59 (Endeavour) by focusing on the engineers, technicians, and directors who make spaceflight possible. Candid and emotional interviews show the history of NASA and the American Space Program in an unusually human light, describing what it really takes to launch a Shuttle. STS-126 Launch

The STS-126 mission lifted off at 7:55 pm EST, 14th November 2008 on a mission to prep the International Space Station for expanded crews. NASA astronaut Chris Ferguson commands the seven-member crew, which includes Pilot Eric Boe, Mission Specialists Donald Pettit, Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper, Steve Bowen, Shane Kimbrough and Sandra Magnus.. In Endeavour's payload bay, the Multi-Purpose Logistics Module Leonardo is packed full of about 14500 pounds of equipment and supplies, making it one of the heaviest modules in shuttle history. Also included in the payload, are additional sleeping quarters, a second toilet, an exercise device and other household-type equipment. The prime objective of the 15-day mission is to prepare the International Space Station to accommodate six members for long-duration stays. Four planned spacewalks will focus on servicing the station's two Solar Alpha Rotary Joints, or SARJ, which are needed to track the sun for electric power. Endeavour and its crew are set to land at NASA's Kennedy Space Center after more than two weeks in space.

1982: STS-3 Columbia (NASA)

STS-3 was the third space shuttle mission, and was the third mission for the Space Shuttle Columbia. It was the first launch with an unpainted external tank, and the only landing at the White Sands Space Harbor near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Major objectives of the flight were to continue testing the RMS arm, and to carry out extensive thermal testing of the Columbia by exposing its tail, nose and top to the Sun for varying periods of time.

STS-132: Landing The Final Time For Space Shuttle Atlantis At Kennedy Space Center

Shot from the Press viewing area next to the control tower at NASA's Shuttle Landing Facility runway at Kennedy Space Center. Space shuttle Atlantis returns from space for the final time in its career, landing at KSC at the conclusion of mission STS-132. Landing occurred on time the morning of May 26, 2010. This was Atlantis' 32nd mission in the 25 years since its first launch in 1985. Since then, the shuttle orbiter has racked up over 120 million miles traveled in space, docked with the Russian Mir space station, serviced the Hubble Space Telescope, deployed planetary probes, conducted numerous research missions and played a critical role in the construction and maintenance of the International Space Station. The vehicle will be processed for a possible Launch On Need (rescue) mission backup for STS-134, the last-ever planned shuttle flight. Then the orbiter will be delivered to a museum or other insitution for permanent display.
